The country is actively applying artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in various areas of the economy. The National Academy of Sciences predicts that in the coming years AI will penetrate even deeper into the work of enterprises, businesses and our lives. However, there is still no legal definition of the use of such strategic technology. Today, the country is actively working on the creation of a law on artificial intelligence. We learned more from Sergey Kruglikov, Director General of the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
Belarus is betting on the digitalization of the economy, and artificial intelligence is becoming a key tool in this process. According to Sergey Kruglikov, in the coming years, AI will penetrate even deeper into our lives, opening up new opportunities for businesses and citizens.
- It should be noted that there is no definition of AI in terms of legislation yet. Belarus is actively developing this sphere, but such growth requires competent regulation. At the same time, the country needs to develop a regulatory framework in the field of AI and a clear strategy for its development to ensure its safe and effective implementation. There is also a need for a state regulator responsible for the management of intelligent technologies,” emphasized the interlocutor.
Despite the fact that Belarus does not yet have a separate law on AI, there are regulations affecting this sphere. Among them is Decree No. 8 “On the development of the digital economy” of December 21, 2017, which grants the right to residents of the High Technology Park to carry out activities in the field of artificial intelligence. In the strategy “Science and Technology: 2018-2040” AI is noted as one of the key directions of the “Belarus Intellectual” model.
