Information Security in the Age of Technology: Challenges and Solutions

17.04.2026

In today's world, technology is developing at an incredible rate, and information security issues are becoming increasingly important. The ONT television channel's "Nashe Utro" program aired a story about how neural networks have learned to fake the voices of famous people and friends, creating so-called deepfakes—a powerful weapon in the scammers' arsenal. These technologies are causing growing concern.

Scammers use fake voices to deceive gullible citizens, obtain confidential data, or even organize criminal schemes. It seems the line between reality and virtual reality is blurred, and trust in information is questionable. But while some are learning to attack information security, scientists from the Biomedical Image Analysis Laboratory of the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus are not only studying new threats but also actively developing methods to protect personal information. The problem of deepfakes is not only a matter of technology but also challenges mathematics, data analysis, and the development of secure systems.

Lead researcher Vasily Alekseevich Kovalev explained that the laboratory's staff works on a wide range of tasks, with a key focus on developments that help medical professionals automate diagnosis processes. However, one of the institute's most important areas of work is the search for technologies to combat fakes and voice cloning.

Research and development in information security are becoming an important step toward protecting personal information and combating fraud.
