How Belarusian scientists work and what developments are implemented

The Joint Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (OIPID of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus) celebrates the 60th anniversary in February 2025. Currently developing software products for use in such areas as space, medicine, agriculture, education, humanities, various technologies. For several years, you can use an audio guide in Belarus, a Botanical Garden, an electronic recipe has been introduced. The Institute has developed and installed supercomputers. – In almost all programs – state, scientific and technical, state programs of scientific research, programs of the Union State – we take an active part. One of the leading positions is the implementation of SG programs in space research and supercomputer technologies. And on supercomputers, we are the only organization that forms and accompanies the SG program. This is the SKIF program, which is approved by the world community and occupies a leading position in the world. As an example, in 2019, their supercomputers were delivered to Hong Kong.
We are also developing social projects – an audio guide to Belarus, there are audio guides in the Academy of Sciences, the Botanical Garden. With the KrokApp app, everyone can find out which city to visit, what historical values to pay attention to. I also want to note the project “Electronic Healthcare” with subsystems – “Cloud Central Health Information System”, “Patient Personal Account”, “Medical Image Archive”, “Unified Laboratory Research Service”.
The Institute was the founder of space research. It is the state enterprise "Geoinformation Systems", which is our subsidiary and is engaged in space technology from the design of spacecraft, the design of equipment for spacecraft and ending with remote sensing of the ground. Four programs of the SG (Cosmos-BR” (1999-2004), Cosmos-SG (2004-2007), Cosmos-NT (2008-2011), and the “Monitoring-SG” (2013-2017) have already been completed, the fifth Komplex-SG is running and the sixth Kosmodor-SG is launched.
AI has long been introduced to many areas of our activity. Currently, the Institute is the developer of the CIS model law “On Artificial Intelligence Technologies”. It is clear that each country is following its own path of development of the intellectual component. At the same time, the introduction of AI also carries a number of risks. It is necessary to resolve the issue at the legislative level of how and where it can be used without prejudice to people.
Also on the basis of the institute, the AI platform has been developed so that all developers, users can share thoughts and considerations.
What other projects are being implemented?
- According to the Decree of the Head of State, the Institute is defined as the "Office of Digitalization" of the NAS of Belarus. The task is scientific and technical support and introduction of digital technologies in all spheres of activity of the Academy of Sciences with the subsequent transfer of rights to branch ministries and departments. To ensure the activities of the “Digitalization Office”, the Institute has created a Digital Development Support Center for the Implementation of the Figures in Various Activities.
The cluster – IT-Acadegrad, has also been created. Our task is to provide the platform and not only academic organizations to move and develop together. The competence center for intellectual agriculture. We want to create an intelligent platform for precision farming. There is also a competence center for "Intellectual Healthcare", the Intelligent Space Technologies Center.

IT-Academygrad Forum
I also want to announce. On October 10-11, the III IT-Acadegrad Forum “Atlantic Intelligence in Belarus” will be held in Minsk. This is the largest scientific event of the year in the field of artificial intelligence, organized by the NAS of Belarus and III NAS of Belarus. The forum includes a rich business program, thematic sections, a round table, a large-scale exhibition of significant domestic developments in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics.
