In Belarus, work on space topics was carried out back in the 1950s and 1960s. In the interests of implementing the space programs of the Soviet Union, a number of technical innovations were produced in the Byelorussian SSR, and scientific schools were actively formed and developed. Suffice it to say that the famous first photo of the far side of the Moon was taken with equipment created by our BelOMO.
— At one time, many leading scientists came to Belarus, including in the space field. They created scientific schools, new directions. For example, our Peleng emerged from the structure of the Minsk Mechanical Plant named after Vavilov, — recalls Sergei Kruglikov, Director General of the UIPI NAS of Belarus. — In general, the implementation of the USSR space program was primarily carried out against the backdrop of a race with the Americans.
As Sergei Kruglikov says, the implementation of the Union programs contributed to the preservation and development of the scientific, technical and production potential of Belarus and Russia in many important scientific fields. These include information space technologies, space and scientific instrumentation, materials science, and training of specialists in space specialties.
Cooperation with Russia played a major role in our achievements, recalls Petr Vityaz. Thus, in March 2011, an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation between Belarus and Russia in the field of exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes was signed.
- This allowed us to solve problems not only within the framework of union programs, but also to directly cooperate in terms of production, and jointly improve the regulatory framework, - he notes. - However, we are also successfully working in the field of space under union programs. Eight of them have been completed, and the ninth is being implemented - this is "Complex-SG". UIPI NAS of Belarus is the lead executor of its Belarusian part.
“Their results,” notes Sergei Kruglikov, “are aimed at expanding the common scientific, technological and information space of the two countries, integrating their ground and orbital space assets, as well as intellectual and production resources in conducting research and using outer space for peaceful purposes.
