Belarus and India: New Horizons for Cooperation
26.02.2026A meeting was held in Minsk between Andrei Govin, Deputy General Director for Research and Innovation at the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and Vassili Kovalev, Leading Researcher at the Biomedical Image Analysis Laboratory, and Ashok Kumar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to the Republic of Belarus. During the meeting both Parties discussed the current state of the Belarusian-Indian scientific partnership and prospects for its expansion.
The successful results of collaboration under existing agreements and the joint project "Research Prototype of a Remote Screening System for Diabetic Retinopathy," implemented in 2023–2025, were noted. During the project, a research prototype of a system for rapid screening of diabetic retinopathy based on retinal images recorded by a fundus camera in the visible range of the electromagnetic spectrum was created. This development marks an important step in the field of medical AI solutions.
The parties discussed promising projects in the field of artificial intelligence, including knowledge sharing and participation in international events and conferences, and set up possible proposals for further cooperation aimed at strengthening scientific ties between Belarus and India.
At the end of the meeting, the Indian Ambassador invited Belarusian scientists to participate in a major event to be held in Minsk at the end of March, where approximately 70 representatives of Indian pharmaceutical companies are expected to attend.
The UIIP NAS of Belarus confirmed its readiness to participate in the further development of bilateral cooperation, presenting the scientific expertise and achievements of the Belarusian school in the field of artificial intelligence.
