Single Information Day: Preserving Historical Memory and Combating Falsifications

29.06.2026
The United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus held a Unified Information Day dedicated to one of the most significant and tragic dates in the history of our nation – the 85th anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War. The meeting with institute staff was held under the motto "Memory for the Future." The main topic of discussion was the problem of preserving historical truth and countering attempts to distort history. The conversation was conducted by Olga Yuryevna Fyodorova, Deputy Head of the Pervomaisky District Administration of Minsk.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that attempts to falsify the events of those years are becoming more persistent with each passing year. In this context, historical memory is the fundamental condition for the existence and greatness of any nation, and its loss is a direct threat to national security.

It is difficult to overestimate the colossal contribution of the Belarusian people to the Victory. One in three residents gave their life saving their homeland from the "brown plague." Our state is currently taking systematic steps to preserve the memory of this heroic deed. In the last five years alone, 338 works of monumental art dedicated to military history have been created in the country. Work is underway to include the Brest Fortress and Mamayev Kurgan memorials on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Iconic sites such as the Mound of Glory and the Khatyn Memorial Complex are being actively reconstructed, and new museums are being established.

Even today, decades after the war's end, the search continues: since 2021, 480 unaccounted military graves have been discovered, and the remains of over 13,000 fallen soldiers have been recovered.

During the discussion at the EDI, it was once again emphasized that as long as the memory of the heroic deeds of our ancestors lives, so will Belarus itself.
The staff of the Joint Institute for Industrial Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus also had a meeting with Andrei Ivanovich Sheko, Director of the Association "Robotics and Artificial Intelligence," as part of the EDI. He spoke about promoting engineering and high-tech professions among the younger generation and career guidance for schoolchildren, using the creation of specialized engineering classes as an example. The information presented was primarily aimed at parents whose children are still considering their future career choices.
