Scientific diplomacy: Belarusian scientists took part in international conferences

17.07.2026
The International Scientific Conference "Theory of Mathematical Optimization and Operations Research" (MOTOR 2026) was held in Irkutsk. Mikhail Yakovlevich Kovalev, Chief Researcher at the Laboratory of Mathematical Cybernetics at the Joint Institute for Industrial Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, participated in the conference.

At this prestigious scientific venue, our scientist presented a plenary report entitled "Routing and Charging Scheduling for Regular Electric Buses." This topic is becoming increasingly pressing in the current context of the global transition of public transportation to electric traction, and the problem of effectively managing charging infrastructure is becoming critical.

In his report, Mikhail Yakovlevich presented algorithms developed at the Joint Institute for Industrial Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus that enable the solution of a complex problem: not only plotting public transportation routes but also synchronizing them with the operating schedules of traction substations. The mathematical models take into account battery capacity, time of day, and passenger traffic, helping to minimize vehicle downtime and prevent overloading of city power grids.

In addition, as part of the working trip, a series of negotiations took place with leading specialists from the Institute of Mathematics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RF) and the Institute of Advanced Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Shenzhen, China), which developed into substantive discussions of joint projects.
