The United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is a leader in transforming key economic sectors through the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies. Specific developments by our institute in this area are the subject of an extended article in the latest issue of the Navuka newspaper.

Healthcare is a key focus area for UIPN researchers. Specialists in the Biomedical Image Analysis Laboratory were the first in the country to apply machine learning technologies to medical diagnostics. The security of patients' personal data, another area of the institute's work, is becoming increasingly important. Federated learning is an example of this. This technology allows for training models using data from dozens of hospitals without transferring the data outside the clinics, guaranteeing the complete confidentiality of patient records while accumulating colossal amounts of information.

Artificial intelligence is also actively used in fundamental pharmacology; computational methods enable screening of huge databases to identify candidate molecules for new drugs. This methodology is being actively used, for example, in the implementation of the new Union program "Soyuz-Biomembranes," which aims to create technologies for the development of next-generation drugs.

Speaking about the achievements of the institute's team, it is worth highlighting the results of joint work with Shanghai University on the search for drugs against COVID-19. Screening global databases allowed us to identify promising molecules among existing drugs on the market that could be repurposed to combat the virus. Similar approaches are currently being applied to the search for targets for the treatment of cancer and tuberculosis. Thanks to the Republican Supercomputer Center for Shared Use, scientists have already identified new molecules against tuberculosis and viral infections, which are undergoing testing.

Interest in modern technologies and domestic developments has increased. For the fifth time, the UIPI NAS of Belarus is hosting the IT-Akademgrad international forum "Artificial Intelligence in Belarus." This year, it will be held on October 13-14 at the institute.
