From Pixel to Evidence Base: UIIP NASB Technologies Presented at a Forensic Science Exhibition

17.09.2026
Ensuring national security in the 21st century is impossible without relying on the exact sciences. Evidence of this thesis was demonstrated at the thematic exhibition of the IV International Scientific and Practical Conference “The Role and Importance of Forensic Expertise and Forensic Expertology in Ensuring National Security.” The Joint Institute for Pilot Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus presented a set of developments that can already change the work of forensic experts today.

The institute’s exposition covered three critically important segments of modern expert practice:
  • technologies that can distinguish a fake signature in seconds: one - determines authenticity based on individual characteristics, regardless of whether it was made with an expensive fountain pen on stamped paper or on the back of a notepad sheet, the other - reads a person’s unique motor pattern when writing on a tablet with a stylus or finger.;
  • machine learning methods for verification and objectification of data in the analysis of biomedical images, which can become a second opinion for a forensic doctor;
  • supercomputer modeling technologies for the study of fast dynamic processes, which allow us to move from probabilistic estimates of “a fragment could fly at such and such an angle” to accurate calculations of trajectories, velocities and force vectors.

At the exhibition, the competencies of the Institute of Industrial History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus were presented by:

  • Alexander Inyutin, head of the system identification laboratory;
  • Sergey  Medvedev, chief researcher at the laboratory of high-performance systems and modeling technologies;
  • Akhmedkhan Radzhabov, junior researcher at the Laboratory of Biomedical Image Analysis;
  • Nadezhda Borodich, head of the department of international cooperation and exhibition activities;
  • Roman Chernyavsky, software engineer at the System Identification Laboratory.
The integration of modern technologies into the practice of forensic experts can create a new technological structure and guarantee that each piece of evidence that forms the basis for the protection of national interests and the rights of citizens has the maximum degree of reliability.
