How Artificial Intelligence Will Speed Up Power Grid Repairs

01.10.2026
Amidst global instability, the issue of technological independence for critical infrastructure has become particularly acute. RUE "Grodnoenergo" is prioritizing internal resources: the "SKOPA" hardware-software system, developed in-house, is now entering the field testing stage.

An on-site seminar and meeting dedicated to testing the fault-detection system was held at the "Lida Electric Networks" branch in the city of Lida. A high-level delegation from the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (UIIP NASB), led by Director General Dmitry Alexandrovich Sakharuk, arrived in Lida. The group included Alexey Maratovich Belotserkovsky, Head of the Intelligent Information Systems Department, and Alexander Vladimirovich Inyutin, Head of the System Identification Laboratory.

The "SKOPA" system, currently being developed at the "Dispatch and Technological Control Systems" branch of RUE "Grodnoenergo," is poised to revolutionize the operations of emergency response teams. Traditionally, locating a fault on a power line is a labor-intensive process that consumes time and requires the deployment of multiple repair crews.

"SKOPA" automates this task. The software system automatically detects parameter spikes in the grid, analyzes wave phenomena, and provides the dispatcher with the precise coordinates of the fault location. A demonstration of the specialized hardware-software system clearly showed how it rapidly visualizes the fault on a digital map. This means a dispatcher can receive an alert regarding the type and location of the fault within seconds of the incident. Precise recording of fault parameters aids in analyzing the root causes of incidents and preventing their recurrence.
