The latest issue of the
Navuka newspaper features an article about an ambitious project being conducted at the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus to introduce new technologies to beekeepers. The Belarusian scientists' development is planned to transform ordinary hives into smart nodes of a unified information network, united by data and analytics. This will significantly increase the productivity of this segment of agriculture, improve the health of bee colonies, and enhance the quality of produce.
The main idea of the project is to transform beekeeping from a traditional craft activity into a controlled, knowledge-intensive process. Anatoly Krivorot, Deputy Director for Research at the Institute of Fruit Growing of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, notes that a fundamental research program is being developed as part of the project. This approach will allow for the systematization of the entire apiary's work. According to Dmitry Rakhmatulin, head of the beekeeping laboratory at the Institute of Fruit Growing of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the project involves three stages: equipping hives with sensors, an information unit at the apiary, and an interactive map for the country. This integrated approach will ensure systematic coordination of actions and the ability to quickly respond to changes in bee colonies.
The project, being developed at the Institute of Fruit Growing of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, promises to bring numerous benefits. Firstly, it will significantly increase productivity and reduce the costs of maintaining bee colonies. Secondly, the use of technology will enable better care of bees, which, in turn, will impact the quality and volume of produced goods. Thirdly, the creation of a unified platform for interaction between beekeepers and agricultural producers will open up new business opportunities and increase transparency in the industry.
