UIIP of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus at the Forum of Women Entrepreneurs of the Union State

21.05.2026
At the Union State Women Entrepreneurs Forum, held in Minsk on May 21–22, Anna Karpenko, a research fellow at the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, presented a paper entitled "Potential Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine."

The presentation was part of the "Knowledge-Intensive Industries and Technological Security of the Union State" section, which discussed modern approaches to developing high-tech industries and ensuring technological independence.

In her paper, the representative of the Laboratory of Mathematical Cybernetics at the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus discussed the application of computational methods and artificial intelligence in biomedicine, including early-stage drug development.

Special attention was paid to the role of mathematical modeling and machine learning algorithms in analyzing biological data and searching for promising molecular compounds. These approaches significantly accelerate the initial selection of candidates for further laboratory research, reducing the time and resources required to develop new drugs.

In Anna Dmitrievna's laboratory, methods of mathematical cybernetics and bioinformatics are being developed, aimed at constructing models of the interactions of molecules with biological systems, as well as analyzing large sets of experimental data. The results obtained are used to predict the properties of compounds and support decision-making in the early stages of pharmaceutical research.

As noted, computational technologies do not replace experimental research, but they significantly increase its efficiency, allowing for a focus on the most promising areas.

The event also emphasized the importance of the Union State's scientific and technical program "Soyuz-Biomembranes," aimed at developing technologies for identifying therapeutic targets and creating new medicinal compounds. The UIPI NAS of Belarus is a co-implementer of this program, participating in the development of computational methods for modeling and analyzing biomolecular systems.

The implementation of such projects contributes to strengthening the scientific and technological potential of the Union State and the development of modern approaches in biomedicine and pharmaceuticals.
